309 days on site!
309 days…that is exactly how long our rental transformer was on site. This example illustrates the importance of a backup solution when you experience fault of a VFD transformer.
It was the beginning of December 2021 when we received an inquiry to rent a drive transformer. Looking at the documentation of the original transformer we have immediatelly recognized that our solution shall be a good match. After confirming the technical feasibility things started to move very fast.
First, our company made a budgetary proposal. The rental cost was regressive, i.e. the longer the rental period the less the daily rental cost. In the next round the contractual details have been clarified. Few days later we were already organizing the transport to site while in parallel doing inspection on the transformer prior to the shipment (customer request). The results were positive and there was no road block more.
On December 10, 2021 the transformer was loaded on a truck in southern Switzerland and left towards its new location. 4 days later the transformer arrived on site in southern Europe. There it was tested once again, installed and swiftly commissioned.
The rental transformer served on site in a reliable way for more than 10 months. After 309 days its faithful service ended and a week later it was picked up and transported back to Switzerland. Right now the transformer is in a warehouse ready for the next mission.
This rental case was a true success. Considering that it started in December 2021, COVID-19 was just peaking, many companies had somewhat impacted operations, lead times of equipment were long (they still are) and all other challenges our reaction was pretty fast: 5 days after receiving the purchase order the transformer was loading on a truck and shipped to site, other 4 days later it arrived on site, was inspected, tested and installed within next 2 days.
Our solution
3 years ago we decided to fill in a gap on the market and offer converter duty transformer to rent. Our more than 10 years of experience from medium voltage drives along with the market knowledge allowed us to specify, design and purchase transformers that fit many VFDs from renowned brands such as ABB, Ansaldo/Nidec, General Electric (Converteam), Ingeteam, Schneider or Siemens.
