#Energy efficiency
Part 1: Introduction
Energy efficiency is a big topic that the society talks about. One reason is the increased awareness of the impact of human on the planet and effort to minimize this impact, other reason is purely economical considering cost benefits due to energy savings and competitive advantage.
Regardless the motivation, variable speed drives are in majority of cases the right means to reduce overall energy consumption. Depending on the application and operating philosophy the energy savings can be quite impressive resulting in significant reduction of CO2 emissions and also short payback period of equipment.
In this series we would like to focus on energy efficiency, analyze the topic from various angles and view the different perspectives. The goal is to provide you with basic background. Also, we want to make sure that you will not be fooled and that you can make a fair assessment.
We would like to discuss frequent questions such as
- when does the VFD pay off (incl. payback time calc)
- what applications are suitable for energy savings
- what efficiency to expect from variable speed drive system
- how to benchmark products and systems against each other
- how to measure/verify the efficiency figures
- guarantee points and contractual efficiency figures
- DFE versus AFE drives – which one fits better
- what to pay attention to (dishonest practices)
- others/varia
